Born & Raised? My family is from India, but I was born and raised in good old Northeast Ohio.

S.O./children/pets? My boyfriend, Krish, is my strongest supporter. He’s starting pediatric neurology residency at UPMC this year, so we’re embarking on an LDR. Though she’s not technically “my” pet, my family dog, Jovie, is my biggest source of comfort. Very sad to be leaving her, but my parents spoil her rotten so she’s in good hands.
Prior history? No prior military service, but excited to be working with so many that are! I’d say formative experiences probably include my time with Muscular Dystrophy Association summer camp, where volunteers spend a week each summer at sleep-away camp giving the full summer camp experience (hiking, horse-back-riding, rock-climbing, campfires) to kids with muscular dystrophy. Another formative experience is working for my med school’s student run free clinic, and being part of the team that got us running on telehealth when the pandemic hit.
Favorite food? All of it, but if I had to choose, my mom’s chicken saag, which is an Indian chicken and spinach dish that I can never make as well as her.
Favorite thing to do when not studying or working? I got into hobby woodworking during at-home rotations and successfully built a shelf that holds things recently! I also enjoy exploring new restaurants, theater, and dance fitness (but not like, Jazzercise; like, cool dance fitness).
Specific interests in Psychiatry? Child and adolescent psych, transgender psychiatry/inter-disciplinary care, and psychiatric ethics. I am actually finishing up my ethics master’s thesis about transgender adolescent narrative care, and will hopefully have that published before starting residency!

One fun/embarrassing story and one thing you are really proud of --

Embarrassing story: Every single time I have either been mistaken for a shadowing middle-schooler or high-schooler during rotations because of how short I am, or every time I have been mistaken for a resident or attending because of how long my “short” white coat is on me. I am not lost, I am also not able to write those restraint orders, I am just #verticallychallenged!

Proud story: As a med student, I once had a patient with a history of cocaine use who kept complaining of waxing/waning headache and vertigo while an inpatient for heart failure. I had the time so I did a full neuro exam and found horizontal nystagmus; recommended to my attending that we get an MRI even though I was nervous that I was overreacting. MRI showed three lacunar strokes in the occipital lobe and one in the temporal lobe. Attending told me the next day during rounds in front of the whole team that my physical exam might have saved the patient’s life. That felt really good.

Born & Raised? Born and raised in Manchester, CT - known as "Silk City"

S.O./children/pets? My husband Andrew is in the Army Reserves and we have two fluffy dogs named Yuki and Mason.
Prior history? No prior military service before USUHS, but I did work as a clinical researcher and medical scribe prior to medical school.
Favorite food? Too many to choose...Currently thinking about Sicilian style Red Pizza (it's life-changing)

Favorite thing to do when not studying or working? We like to go to the farmer's market and dog park. I also enjoy spending time with family, singing, and listening to live music.
Specific interests in Psychiatry?

Sleep! Can't get enough of it...

One fun/embarrassing story and one thing you are really proud of --

An embarrassing story would be that I was walking our family pup (Charlie Wolf currently back in CT) through a high tourist area. Mid-crosswalk he decided to stop and poop...and when all the tourists cleared he hung around to show all the cars what he was doing. My dad had the poop bags and already crossed as he missed the whole scene in the hustle and bustle. We then finished crossing the street before I held up traffic again to run back and pick it up!

Proud of making it through medical school, Bushmaster, and the puppy phase of Mason where he did not sleep through a single night for months.

Favorite thing to do when not studying or working? Video games, working out, hiking/camping, coffee, and golf
Specific interests in Psychiatry? Psychiatry as it relates to chronic disease

One fun/embarrassing story and one thing you are really proud of --

Embarrassing story: My first job out of high school was cooking for a pretty nice restaurant out on a lake. On my second day, they let me make pizzas which took ~45 minutes to make from start to finish. I finished my first one, walked it out of the kitchen to the table, and dropped it on the floor. Had to restart all over again.

Something I'm proud of: My three brothers. Older brother quit his job three years ago to pursue his dream of being an airline pilot. Younger brother graduated college last year (who also completed Army basic training while being a two-sport college athlete) and then moved to DC to start a contracting job with the Army. My youngest brother is a college lacrosse player while majoring in Computer sciences and also participating in a start-up company that aims to bring affordable 3-D printing to public schools in Wisconsin.

Born & Raised? West Jordan, Utah – I spent ages 0-20 in the Salt Lake valley.

S.O./children/pets? Married with 3 children, 4 cats, and a dog.

Prior history? I enlisted in the US Army in 2010 as a 68X Behavioral Health Specialist.  I spent four years at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington with the 98th Combat Stress Detachment. In 2013-2014 I had one deployment to Afghanistan where I spent a few months in FOB Gardez area with the 1-506th IN, then the rest of the deployment supporting the Marines in RC-SW. I was part of the 2nd cohort of the Enlisted to Medical Degree Preparatory Program (EMDP2) with USUHS and GMU. Then HPSP at ETSU Quillen COM in Tennessee.
Branch of the military? Army
Favorite food? 100% pure organic grass fed AAA Alberta beef ribeyes. 1” thick grilled @ 400, 4 mins a side, and serve.

Favorite meme? See also: what I listed under favorite food.
Favorite thing to do when not studying or working? I play guitar, piano, and a few other instruments. I actually wrote an entire album at the USO during my deployment but never recorded it.  I have been trying to figure out how to get studio quality recording at home during the pandemic, but capturing a great quality tone is harder than I thought.
Specific interests in Psychiatry? Child and Adolescent/ Addiction

One fun/embarrassing story and one thing you are really proud of -- I recently became the first Doctor of any kind on either side of my family.  I am really proud of that. The embarrassing part is a side effect of having none of my family in medicine.  I have been mistakenly congratulated for my: “Masters” “PA school” and “Doctorate” by my family since graduating. They mean well, they just sincerely do not comprehend the difference.

MILITARY Psychiatry which I don't think enough focus is placed on the importance of Readiness combined with Resiliency. I strive to decrease the pathologization (word I made up) of folks going through normal difficulties. I am concerned that at times someone will medicate emotions in or to give the patient something.  Disease is the reason to prescribe medications. But I get off my soap box....maybe :)

Easier to say what doesn’t interest me: geriatrics, forensics, personality disorders.  I really like the medical mystery cases in both kids and adults.  Interested in how environmental/toxic/inflammatory/infectious/etc exposures can impact the nervous system and manifest in psychiatric sxs.  I also find psychosis fascinating… and autism too, although it is very frustrating and much more difficult to treat in our allopathic (limited) system.
